Every day Chronicle Live rounds up the latest transfer gossip, and every day it gets busier. But with the transfer window approaching, May was an exceptionally busy month down the rumour mill.
With Newcastle newly flush, the club is a useful source of leverage for agents, which is increasingly a problem. Newcastle United ended up being linked with players including Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala in May.
Inevitably most of the rumours are very thin. On the other hand, few expected players of the calibre of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes to arrive in January.

As a result, most Newcastle fans are keeping an eye on the drip-feed of possibilities, including nufc.com who collated all the links in May and put together a spreadsheet. Here is the whole list, along with an update for each:
Goncalo Inacio
Twenty-year-old Portuguese centre-back who plays for Sporting Lisbon. Now rumoured to be a Manchester United target.
Paulo Dybala
Striker for Juventus and Argentina, and at the age of 28 into his peak. Hence his huge wages have apparently put off Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Stefan de Vrij
Aged 30, this centre-back plays for Inter Milan and the Netherlands. Rumoured to a possible bargaining chip for a deal with Chelsea.
Rafael Leao
Just 22 years old, plays as a forward for AC Milan and Portugal. Manchester City and Atletico Madrid have been discussed as potential destinations.
Gianluca Scamacca
Twenty-three-year-old striker for Sassuolo and Italy with 16 goals in Serie A last season. Arsenal are interested apparently.
Marcus Rashford
Still only 24, the Manchester United striker had a tough season. Seems eager to prove his worth to new boss Erik ten Hag.
Ismaila Sarr
Watford and Senegal winger who presumably wants a leg back up into the Premier League. Newcastle prominent among the rumours.
Darwin Nunez
Uruguay and Benfica striker. The 22-year-old is surely destined for Champions League football, though Manchester United linked heavily.

Evan N’Dicka
Centre-back at Eintracht Frankfurt and capped for France national youth sides. Now 22, is another player being linked to Manchester United and Spurs.
Romelu Lukaku
After a disappointing return to Chelsea, the 29-year-old striker seems to be heading for the exit. Might be a return to Inter Milan on loan.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
His side dodged relegation, but will he stay at Everton for next season? The England-capped 25-year-old might feel like a change is needed.
Patrik Schick
Forward for Bayer Leverkusen and the Czech Republic. Is reported to have extended his contract with his current club late last month.
Christopher Nkunku
RB Leipzig and France midfielder, aged 24. Linked to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Jesse Lingard
Neglected at Manchester United, the 29-year-old has been rumoured to be heading for West Ham, scene of his successful loan. Future still unconfirmed.
Renan Lodi
Left-back at Atletico Madrid. Aged just 24, Newcastle are top of the rumour pile for this potential signing.
Axel Witsel
Midfielder for Borussia Dortmund and Belgium. Aged 33 years old, he is reportedly a free agent and presumably looking for one last contract.
Jordan Pickford
Everton and England goalkeeper, whose future is probably a little more stable after his club ensured survival. Inflatable dinosaur manufacturers keeping an eye on this one though.
James Tarkowski
Was a big rumour for Newcastle in January, but less so now. Instead the Burnley defender is heavily linked to Everton.
Ibrahim Sangare
PSV and Ivory Coast midfielder. Aged 24, has been linked to Liverpool, Leicester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Philippe Coutinho
Twenty-nine-year-old Brazilian midfielder. Snapped up by Aston Villa after decent loan season.
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Centre-back who has been on loan at Celtic from Spurs. Aged 24, he has played for USA.
Victor Osimhen
Twenty-three-old striker for Napoli and Nigeria. Manchester United and Arsenal are other names in the hat but the price is high.
Kasper Schmeichel
Aged 35, his powers as Leicester City goalkeeper seem to have diminished. His future is unclear.
Hugo Ekitike
The big rumour for Newcastle recently. Aged 19, has been scoring for Reims, and his future is very much a running story.
Sasa Kalajdzic
Plays for Stuttgart and Austria as a forward. Among those rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old are Manchester United, who must have a very long shopping list, and Borussia Dortmund.
Benoit Badiashile
Twenty one years old, plays as a defender for Monaco. Reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, with Wolves and West Ham linked.
Ugurcan Cakir
Aged 26, he is a goalkeeper for Turkey and Trabzonspor, a Turkish side. Leeds and Fulham among those said to be interested.
Jules Kounde
Defender for Seville and France, aged just 23. Has been linked to Chelsea, but Barcelona also said to be in the chase.
Amine Gouiri
Twenty-two-year-old striker for Nice. Apparently Borussia Dortmund and Read Madrid have had a look.
Yannick Carrasco
Plays on the wing, whether forward or further back, for Atletico Madrid and Belgium. Aged 28, is reportedly also a target for Aston Villa.
Maxence Lacroix
Aged 22, plays as a centre-back for Wolfsburg. West Ham and Aston Villa rumoured to be interested.
Boubacar Kamara
Midfielder for France and Marseille. The 22-year-old was snapped up by Aston Villa for next season.
Dean Henderson
Twenty-five-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper. Struggles to get appearances, and apparently not a target for Newcastle.
Thomas Strakosha
Lazio’s 27-year-old goalkeeper. Plays for Albania and seems to be heading for Fulham.
Sam Johnstone
Another goalkeeper, this time playing for West Brom. Aged 29 and perhaps looking for an escape, Crystal Palace are among the rumoured destinations.
Jordan Veretout
Twenty-nine-year-old midfielder for Roma and France, and previously at Aston Villa. Napoli and Marseille reported to be interested.
Memphis Depay
Forward for Barcelona and the Netherlands. Aged 28, Arsenal are said to be keen.
Moses Simon
Aged 26, he plays as a forward for Nantes and Nigeria. Newcastle most prominent among the rumours.
Ludovic Blas
Twenty-four-year-old midfielder at Nantes. Has been talked up by players with experience playing in France.
Amando Broja
Forward for Chelsea and Albania. Aged 20, there are a lot of names in the hat, including West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Inter Milan and Napoli.
Jack Harrison
Underrated Leeds United winger, aged 25. May feel his career needs a higher profile.
Sven Botman
The long tease. A highly rated, 22-year-old Lille centre-back who has been strongly linked to AC Milan.
Adrien Rabiot
Twenty-seven-year-old Juventus and France midfielder. Linked to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Isaak Toure
Defender for Le Havre. Aged 19, his future has been linked to Marseille and Lyon.
Jonathan David
Canadian forward playing for Lille. Manchester United’s name has been thrown in the pot, as has Liverpool's, as has Arsenal's.
Wout Faes
Centre-back for Reims, aged 24. Rumours have linked him to Lazio and West Ham.
Tyrone Mings
Aston Villa’s 29-year-old defender. Highly rated by some.
Moussa Diaby
Winger for Bayer Leverkusen and France. Aged just 22, his price is inevitably being talked up, and there is also reported interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.
Malcolm Ebiowei
Eighteen-year-old striker for Derby County. Crystal Palace are favourites to sign him up.
Ruben Neves
Wolves and Portugal midfielder, aged 25. Expected to leave for big money.
Nathan Collins
Centre-back for Burnley and Ireland. Leeds United rumoured to be keen on the 21-year-old.
Giovanni Simeone
Forward who has been scoring goals for Hellas Verona, on loan from Cagliari. The 26-year-old has also played for Argentina and has been linked to Arsenal and Juventus.
Seko Fofana
Twenty-seven-year-old midfielder for Lens and Ivory Coast. Linked to Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain.
