54 North West companies that have collapsed into administration so far this year including Missguided and a city centre hotel

A raft of companies across the North West have collapsed into administration so far in 2022.

They include household names such as fast fashion giant Missguided as well as a range of small to medium-sized enterprises from varying industries.

Using data from The Gazette supplied by Interpath Advisory, BusinessLive has rounded up the firms that have called in the administrators between January to the end of June this year.

January

MiChild, which operates 16 children’s nurseries and preschools in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire, entered administration at the start of the year before being bought in February in a move that saved 250 jobs.

Redundancies were made at two online retailers after Interpath Advisory was appointed to Lancashire-based Big Home Shop and Physioroom.

Stainless steel fabrication business Trufab Technologies in Rochdale also called in the administrators and was then bought by a Plymouth robotics firm in April in a move that saved 29 jobs.

Almost 100 jobs were lost after Bolton-based medicine manufacturer Bolton-based M&A Pharmachem collapsed into administration.

The extent of the company's losses were reported by BusinessLive when financial documents were published the following month.

February

One of the most high profile North West administrations in February was the collapse of Lymm-based Mulbury Homes.

In the region of 40 jobs were lost when the homes developer called in Kroll.

Crossleys Accident Repair Centre, which has four sites in Poulton le Fylde and Liverpool, entered administration during February but was bought by M & B Motors (North West) Ltd for an undisclosed sum in March in a move that saved 70 jobs.

Warrington-based Mayne Coaches also entered administration and was then bought by Go Goodwins Group of Eccles, Manchester.

March

Stockport-based Creative Apparel entered administration in March but was sold to Apparel Services in a deal that saved 14 jobs.

Other companies that entered administration during the month included:

  • Pentagon Consultancy Ltd - Morecambe
  • Burns Mechanical Engineering Ltd - Bury, Greater Manchester

  • Michael Rose & Baylis Limited - Liverpool
  • Elevated Engineering Services Limited - Middleton, Greater Manchester
  • Hughes Fabrications Limited - Northwich
  • Servicescale Limited - Chester
  • Jayfex Limited - Old Trafford, Manchester

April

Farnworth-based Clive Christian Furniture entered administration in April and was then snapped up by Luxury Interior Manufacturing, which is registered in London. That deal saved a total of 66 jobs.

Other companies that entered administration during the month included:

  • Contract Lifting Solutions Limited - Oldham, Greater Manchester
  • Atlas Traffic Management Ltd - Horwich, Bolton
  • Philips Trust Corporation Limited - Salford
  • T W Parker (Paper) Limited - Bootle, Liverpool
  • A1 Supa Skips Ltd - Penrith, Cumbria
  • Ashcroft Demolition (Cumbria) Limited - Maryport, Cumbria

May

Birkenhead-based R&D tax relief consultancy Access2Funding collapsed into administration owing almost £1m before it was rescued by a rival. The company was bought by Catax in Altrincham at the end of May.

June

The administration and subsequent rescue of Manchester-headquartered fast fashion brand Missguided made national headlines.

The company was acquired by Frasers Group, whose brands include House of Fraser and Sports Direct, for £20m at the start of June.

Love Lane Brewery also entered administration during the month but was saved after a former Iceland boss invested a further £300,000.
