53 homes to be built in 'historic' Sandiacre town centre

An ambitious plan to build over 50 homes on a previous 'historic setting' was given the green light.

The development include 53 homes, of which five are dedicated affordable housing, to be built on Bridge Street in the centre of Sandiacre, Derbyshire.

National planning consultancy Boyer has secured a resolution to grant planning permission on behalf of Wade Properties Investment for the project.

The resolution was awarded at Planning Committee by Erewash Borough Council on Wednesday, October 13.

The 1.1ha site contains an underutilised commercial property for small business and industrial use and is surrounded by residential development.

Achieving planning consent on this complex brownfield site involved consideration of listed buildings, a local conservation area, potential ground contamination and an assessment of flood risk.

The newly consented scheme will comprise a mix of house types and tenures that maximises the use of this dilapidated site.

David Hutchinson, Associate Director in Boyer’s Midlands office said: "We are delighted to have achieved planning permission on this important site in the centre of Sandiacre.

"The planning consent was not without its challenges, specifically in relation to the site’s previous use and the sensitive historic setting.

"However, the future scheme will bring much needed housing to the area and represents an excellent use of a underutilised brownfield site."
