52-year-old man charged with murder of journalist Lyra McKee

A 52-year-old man has been charged in connection with the murder of Lyra McKee.

The PSNI released a statement confirming that the man, who was arrested on Tuesday, has officially been charged.

The man, who was taken to the Musgrave Serious Crime Suite, has also been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to danger life and professing to be a member of a proscribed organisation.

He will appear before Derry Magistrates Court tomorrow, Thursday, February 13.

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said: "I have always said a number of individuals were involved with the gunman on the night Lyra was killed and while today is significant for the investigation, the quest for the evidence to bring the gunman to justice remains active and ongoing."

Lyra McKee, 29, was shot dead after trouble flared in the Creggan part of Derry city on April 18, 2019.

She was rushed to hospital in a police Land Rover but was later pronounced dead.

The freelance journalist had recently moved to Derry from Belfast with her partner.
