CHANDIGARH: In the last 50 days, 52.6% of those 18 years and 44 years of age have been given one shot of the vaccine against Covid-19, according to the UT health department that will be going to a few college campuses to achieve a 100% target from July 12.
“To facilitate the vaccination of all college students of 18 years and above, dedicated vaccination camps will start at three sites, PEC, Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Sector 26 and Post Graduate College Sector 46, from July 12,” said Dr Amandeep Kang, director health services, UT.
She said, “The target is to achieve 100% vaccination of college students so that college campuses are safe for students, teachers and other employees.”
Till date, 2,04,554 beneficiaries in this age group have been vaccinated. The drive for 18 years and above started from May 14 in the city. “Due to change in the vaccination supply policy, the doses were not sufficient even while the demand was more. This slowed the pace of the number of shots. However, with time and ease of supply, we have been able to give over 5,500 doses a day to this age group,” said an official in the health department.
There are 6,31,338 residents in the city who are above the age of 18 years, according to the electoral rolls. Out of these, 3,80,501 are between 18 and 44 years. “If we cover this section of the society, we can achieve our first dose coverage for the city by July-end of the first week of August,” said an official in the health department.
