51-year-old punched to floor and robbed of shopping in Boxing Day attack

A 51-year-old man was punched to the floor and robbed of his shopping during an "extremely frightening" attack on Boxing Day.

The victim was near to an alleyway on Albion Street, Newark, when he was approached by a man on a bike.

The suspect asked him for money before punching him to the floor and taking a bag of shopping from him.

It happened at around 8.30pm on December 26. The victim suffered facial injuries that are not believed to be serious.

Police have said the offender is white and believed to be aged in his late 20s.

The force is now appealing for witnesses and information.

Detective Constable Andrew Brownless, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an extremely frightening experience for the victim, however fortunately he did not sustain any serious injuries.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has any information which could help us with our enquiries to come forward.

"If you can help please call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 585 of 26 December 2019, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
