51 forgotten Christmas chocolates from Quality Street, Celebrations, Roses and Heroes

It's almost Christmas Day, meaning it's the perfect time to reach inside your favourite box of chocolate.

From Quality Street and Roses to Celebrations and Heroes, supermarkets are filled with some of the nation's best loved tubs and tins.

Everyone has their favourite wrapped chocolate, whether it be the Purple One from Quality Street or the iconic Malteser Teasers.

While some of us might disagree on what chocolate is the best, we can all agree that the tubs have changed over the years.

Not only have some of the tins shrunk in size, but many chocolates are no longer available after being discontinued and replaced by other options over the years.

To reminisce about some of our fallen chocolate comrades, Surrey Live took a look at each of tub of chocolates from the 'Big 4' to see what is no longer available.

So, which do you miss the most? Take a look...

Quality Street

Quality Street is the most iconic of the tubs - but, which chocolate do you miss the most? (The Manchester Evening News)

We'll start with arguably the most iconic Christmas chocolate tin which was founded way back in 1936 and named after J. M. Barrie's play of the same name.

These iconic purple tins were founded in the 30's by Harold Mackintosh who set out to invent a box of chocolates that was exotic and reasonably priced.

Today the tin includes some of our festive favourites, including The Purple One, The Green Triangle, Toffee Finger, Strawberry Delight, Caramel Swirl, Milk Choc Block, Orange Chocolate Crunch, Orange Creme, Fudge, Coconut Eclair, Toffee Penny and Chocolate Caramel Brownie.

However, quite a few have been dropped and discontinued from the line-up and these include:

  • Purple One (the original 'Purple One' with Brazil nut, replaced with hazelnut version)
  • Chocolate Strawberry Cream (replaced with Strawberry Delight)
  • Chocolate Toffee Cup (replaced with Caramel Swirl)
  • Hazelnut Cracknell
  • Hazelnut Eclair
  • Honeycomb crunch
  • Chocolate Nut Toffee Cream
  • Malt Toffee
  • Milk Chocolate Round (replaced with Milk Choc Block)
  • Peanut Cracknell
  • Almond Octagon
  • Gooseberry Cream
  • Fig Fancy
  • Apricot Delight
  • Toffee Square
  • Chocolate Truffle
  • Montelimar Nougat
  • Harrogate Toffee
  • Fruits of the Forest Creme
  • Smarties
  • Coffee Cream
  • Mint Fondant
  • Toffee Deluxe
  • Crispy Truffle Bite

Heroes

Heroes has had a few changes in its short time span (The Manchester Evening News)

Originally branded as Miniature Heroes, this other purple tub of Christmas chocolates has been a staple for many Scottish households since the 90's.

When you tuck into a tub this year, you'll be able to indulge in the delights of Fudge, Dairy Milk, Dairy Milk Caramel, Wispa, Eclair, Twirl, Fudge, Double Decker and Crunchie.

Once upon a time, there were quite a few other chocolates that you could indulge in and these were:

  • Bournville

  • Dairy Milk Whole Nut

  • Dream

  • Fuse

  • Picnic

  • Time Out

  • Toblerone

  • Nuts About Caramel

Celebrations

Celebrations have made the fewest changes, being almost the same since they were first released (The Manchester Evening News)

Out of all the chocolate tubs, Celebrations might actually be the most divisive thanks to the appearance of Bounty and Snickers.

Despite some of the chocolates being subject for debate, these tubs have been a staple for a lot of us at Christmas since the were introduced back in the 70's.

Today you can snack on miniature versions of Galaxy, Galaxy Caramel, Bounty, Milk Way, Snickers, Maltesers Teaser and Twix.

This tub has also had the least alterations, as only two didn't make the current crop:

  • Galaxy Truffle
  • Topic

Roses

Quite a few Roses have disappeared over the years (The Manchester Evening News)

Up there at the top-tier with Quality Street, Roses is another tub of chocolates from Cadbury's that seem like they have been around forever.

This box of chocolates made its way into our homes as early as 1938 - just two years after the invention of Quality Street.

Today you will find the delights of Golden Barrel, Caramel, Country Fudge, Hazel in Caramel, Hazel Whirl, Strawberry Dream, Tangy Orange Creme, Signature Truffle, and Cadbury Dairy Milk.

Similar to the iconic purple tubs, Roses has undergone quite a few changes over the years with 18 chocolates no longer available for you to try out, which are:

  • Brazilian Darkness
  • Praline Moment
  • Chunky Truffle
  • Bournville (moved the brand to Heroes, but was discontinued there too)
  • Almond Charm
  • Coffee Creme
  • Montelimar
  • Marzipan
  • Turkish Delight
  • Nutty Truffle Log
  • Orange Crisp
  • Chocolate Bite
  • Noisette Whirl
  • Lime Barrel
  • Black Cherry Cream
  • Caramel Velvet
  • Almond Caramel Bite
