50p coins sells for £155 and there are 210,000 in circulation

A 50p coin has sold for £155 and there are 210,000 more in circulation, meaning you could have one.

The 2009 coin was released into circulation to mark 250 years since Kew Gardens opened in 1759.

On Friday, one seller received £155 for theirs and 24 bids in an online auction.

The Royal Mint has previously listed this as the rarest 50p coin in general circulation, and change checking website Coin Hunter puts the average price range for the Kew Gardens 50p at between £150.89 and £161.50, reports The Echo.

Some examples of the coin have sold for £200.

If you find a Kew Gardens 50p you should check the date on it as the Royal Mint reissued a batch of the coins in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of the 50p - and this version doesn’t sell for as much.

But even the reissues can sell for between £70 and £80.
