50kg sandalwood worth Rs 1.5 lakh seized in Chennai

CHENNAI: Kavarapettai police on Sunday arrested a three-member gang, which was smuggling 50kg of sandalwood worth ₹1.5 lakh from Andhra Pradesh. Police seized 96 pieces of sandalwood from the gang.

The arrested were I Arbaz, 25, of Mysuru in Karnataka, and I Nazir Ahmed, 25, and S Sarfaraz Ali, 39, of Kolkata in West Bengal. On Sunday morning, a police team intercepted a car which came from Andhra Pradesh at a check post in Kavarapettai. Police searched the car and found 96 logs cut in regular sizes.
