£500k worth of cocaine found in motorway drugs bust

A man has been arrested and charged following a £500,000 drugs recovery on the M74.

Police Scotland confirmed a 57-year-old was caught on the motorway in Lanarkshire.

Officers allegedly found cocaine with a potential street value of half a million after stopping a car at 3.30pm on Wednesday near Lesmahagow after an intelligence tip off.

They said the man was arrested and charged in connection with drug offences and was due to appear at Lanark Sheriff Court today.

Detective Superintendent Craig Willison said: “We will use all the tools available to us to disrupt the illegal supply of drugs in our communities and remove those involved from our streets.

“The public plays a vital role in helping us to do this and I would encourage anyone who has concerns or information relating to drug activity and those involved in cultivation and supply to contact Police Scotland on 101 or to make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
