5000 COVID-19 tests administered at Mt Arthur Coal

Safety-first: COVID-19 testing at Mt Arthur.

BHP administered its 5000th rapid antigen COVID-19 test at the Mt Arthur Coal site this week.

The company began testing employees and contractors before shifts on August 6.

The clinic was the first of its kind for coronavirus testing at a BHP facility, and temporarily suspended access to the site for people flagged as being from an area with known COVID-19 exposure until they returned a negative result.

No positive results have been returned through the testing at Mt Arthur so far, the company says.

Rapid antigen testing can return a negative result in 15 minutes and an average of 400 people have been screened each day at Mt Arthur since the program began.

"I'm really proud of the team for the way they have stood up the COVID controls in just a matter of weeks," Mt Arthur Coal general manager Adam Lancey said.

"I can't thank the team enough for their work to stand up and comply with these testing controls to keep our people and their families safe."
