£500,000 roadworks on the horizon for A76 in Ayrshire

Motorists in Ayrshire are being advised of possible delays to their journeys from next week due to roadworks taking place on the A76.

A stretch of the route between New Cumnock and Kirkconnel in Dumfriesshire will undergo maintenance from Monday, August 22 with the works to last until Tuesday, September 6.

The project will involve a convoy system and overnight “traffic management” arrangements.

Contractors Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, say the works are “essential” to their road maintenance scheme.

Works will take place from Overcairn Farm to the west of Polshill Bridge and it’s estimated they will cost £537,243 to complete.

Amey say the project will ultimately benefit around 4,000 vehicles using the stretch each day by improving the condition of the road surface and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Construction will be undertaken using a daytime convoy system, between 7am and 6pm each day, with traffic management removed outwith these times.

To complete the works, additional overnight temporary traffic management will be in operation from 6pm on Monday, September 5 until 6am on Tuesday, September 6.

All traffic management will be removed at that point.

Amey say the scheme is weather dependent and may be cancelled, or rescheduled, if weather conditions are “not favourable”.
