Meanwhile, people who break quarantine restrictions after returning to the UK will face tougher enforcement actions, the Transport Secretary said today.

It comes as Grant Shapps announced a change in England's quarantine policy, adopting an approach which allows islands to be treated differently to a country's mainland.

Arrivals to England from seven Greek islands will need to self-isolate for 14 days from 4am on Wednesday, but mainland Greece will maintain its coronavirus quarantine-exemption.

Some MPs also called for the introduction of testing at airports for arrivals, but Mr Shapps said "a single test on arrival is not the solution".
