Fifty cross-party MPs have signed a parliamentary motion demanding that community associations should be allowed to use the word "Olympic". They took the initiative after the Northern Echo in Darlington was informed that its fund-raising campaign on behalf of young sportsmen and women to compete in the 2012 Olympics was illegal because an act of parliament forbade the use of the word "Olympic", or any associated symbols.
