50% more incentives for male vasectomy across state

INDORE: Madhya Pradesh government will now pay 50% more as incentive money to the man undergoing vasectomy procedure across all districts in state under Mission Parivar Vikas programme.

In all districts of state, male undergoing vasectomy will get Rs 3000 as incentive money instead of Rs 2000 paid earlier. Similarly, females will get Rs 3000 for post-delivery tubectomy and Rs 2000 for post abortion sterilisation under revised incentives, showed records.

The females were earlier paid Rs 2200 for post-delivery tubectomy and Rs 1400 for post abortion sterilisation under scheme of family planning, showed records.

Deputy director, NHM-MP Dr Rajeev Srivastava told TOI, “The rates are revised in state under the union government Mission Parivar Vikas programme implemented through NHM to stop inter-district transportation of people to get more money.”

The union government in 2016 identified 145 districts in seven states including 25 in MP with Total fertility rate of over 3. In these districts, the people are getting higher incentives for undergoing the sterilisation process for family planning than others in states, said Dr Srivastava.

“Because of it, over the years it came to fore that people prefer to go to districts with higher incentives for sterilisation. So, to stop these and felicitate the beneficiaries all districts in those seven states are made equivalent”, said Dr Srivastava.

In MP, the TFR has already dipped to 2.0 in accordance with NHFS-V, which was almost equivalent to the national average. The state’s TFR dipped from 2.3 recorded in earlier surveys, added Dr Srivastava.

On the question of male vasectomy Dr Srivastava said, “Madhya Pradesh has very low acceptance for it except Balaghat with satisfactory performance in that case because of the very high reputation of surgeons there.”

“In other districts, the situation in case of male vasectomy is very poor and it is expected to remain below one percent of targeted sterilisation in males in this fiscal”, added Dr Srivastava.
