50 jobs created as new KFC restaurant opens its doors in County Durham

A new KFC restaurant has opened its doors in County Durham creating 50 jobs.

Fried-chicken lovers can now get their fix from the new KFC branch on Essington Way in Peterlee which opened on Friday.

But if you don't feel like leaving your house during the coronavirus lockdown then that's OK because it's open for both takeaways and deliveries.

Team members previously employed at KFC prior to Covid-19 are being welcomed back as new employees at the restaurant.

A number of responsibility measures have been put in place, including extended hygiene procedures, Perspex screens, gloves and designated kitchen zones.

Face masks have also been made available where required and contactless payment is encouraged.

Grant Roderickson, KFC Regional Coach, said: "This has been a hugely anticipated new restaurant and it’s great to be granting the people of Peterlee’s wishes by bringing the Colonel to town just in time for Christmas."

It comes as a £140m County Durham industrial park set to create more than 3,000 jobs announced it would include a stand-alone KFC drive-through restaurant.

The ambition is that over the next 10 years the park will provide 1.8m sq ft of industrial space and create over 3,000 jobs, boosting County Durham’s economy by almost half a billion pounds.
