INDORE: Indore district has become the first district to achieve 50% full COVID-19 immunisation of targeted adult population on Thursday, shows record.
The district with 23,643 inoculation in the day administered 14,08,661 with their two doses of COVID-19 vaccines to complete their full immunisation. The district has a targeted adult population of 28.07 lakh. The vaccination drive was carried on 155 sites in the day.
District immunisation in-charge Dr Tarun Gupta said, “We have crossed one more milestone in the COVID-19 vaccination drive by achieving 50% full immunisation of targeted adult population in district.”
The district on August 31 became the first million plus district in country to achieve 100% first dose coverage of its adult population. Since then, the focus has shifted to second dose to complete the full immunisation in adult population. The trend of daily inoculation also reversed since then with only five to ten percent daily dose administration being as first. Dr Gupta said, “The district has 28.81 lakh people inoculated with first dose till now surpassing the target.”
Dr Gupta said however the people should come forward for taking their second dose of vaccine to complete immunisation.
There are over six to eight lakh people due/overdue for second dose now in district. The full immunisation coverage will jump to around three-fourth of population at one go, if all of them walk to sites in next coming days, said Dr Gupta.
The state government has planned for a mega-cum-catch drive on September 27 for 100% first dose achievement in state with focus on district yet to administer it to all its targeted adult population. In case of Indore, it is yet not clear whether the mega drive will be held here or not.
Dr Gupta on it said, “We will go for second dose vaccination on mega drive if we get supply of vaccine as the first dose target was already completed.”
