50% fee to be waived off in govt schools in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Fifty percent of the fee of 35,000 students studying in government schools of Chandigarh will be waived off. District education officer Prabhjot Kaur has issued instructions in this regard to all school principals.

According to the order, all the schools which have taken annual and monthly fees from April 2021 to July 2021 will adjust the amount till March 2022.

Due to the Covid pandemic, 50% fee relief is being given for the second time in a row. Even though the move comes as a relief for students, Chandigarh administration will suffer a loss of more than three and a half crore.

Government schools of Chandigarh are divided into model and non-model categories. The model schools have English as medium of instruction non model schools have Hindi, Punjabi and English.

Fee of classes IX and X

For class IX and X in model schools, Rs 164 is to be paid as annual fee. In the model school, if the annual income of girls students, SC, OBC category boys, children of widow women and physically disabled students is less than Rs 1.5 lakh, then their fee is waived. Students have to submit relevant documents to the school in Class IX to avail this.

In non-model schools, different fee is charged for different categories - boys, girls and SC students.
