50 Cent's mansion burglarized, police say

HARTFORD, Conn._Police have arrested a man they say broke into the hip hop star 50 Cent's mansion.

Police charged Elwin Joyce, 34, with second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. He was held at the Farmington police station in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Police said they were called to 50 Cent's home at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday after on-site security staff was alerted to a burglar alarm and found a stranger on the property.

"We caught the guy on the property," Farmington police Chief Paul Melanson said.

No one was home at the time.

Joyce has several convictions and a case pending in Norwich for larceny. Melanson said police believe Joyce targeted 50 Cent's home.

Several officers and a dog searched the 50,000-square-foot mansion, which has 21 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, has been trying to sell the Farmington home since 2007. In 2016, he dropped the sale price to $5.995 million. Jackson purchased it in 2003 for $4.1 million.

The mansion was previously owned by boxer Mike Tyson. The home was built by real estate swindler Benjamin Sisti, one of the founders of Colonial Realty.
