50 Cent announces he'll finish Pop Smoke's album after rapper was gunned down

50 Cent has announced that he will complete the unfinished album of Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke who was gunned down in West Hollywood last month.

The Get Rich or Die Tryin' performer spilled the news on his Instagram page writing: "I’m on the move listening to Pop smoke, I decided I’m gonna executive produce and finish his album for him."

The artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, had become close to the 20-year old rising star before he died and recently praised a cover he did of one of 50's classic tracks Many Men.

He made the vow to work on the album as the caption of a picture of him sitting on the steps of a private jet, and the announcement garnered a lot of positive reactions from fans of Pop Smoke who was shot twice during a home invasion, reportedly carried out by four suspects in hoodies.

"That's a good move 50cent. Stay positive. Have a great day" wrote one.

"You're the man" wrote another.

While another comment read: "Album of the year in the making".

And the entertainment mogul didn't waste time in putting his words into action, immediately reaching out to some of the biggest names in music to assist him with the project.

After getting Roddy Ricch, who has been sitting atop the US Hot 100 charts for the past seven weeks with his song The Box, to agree to come on board, he also reached out to the In my Feelings singer Drake via instagram.

Posting a screen shot of his and Roddy's conversation where Roddy agreed to his request with a handshake and the words "say less", 50 wrote: "See i got @roddyricch on deck, this s*** gonna be stupid @champagnepapi where you at?"

He also posted a pic of R&B singer and Rihanna's ex-boyfriend Chris Brown with the caption: "Yo n**** im a need you on this record...[sic]"

It is not clear if either Drake or Chris have responded yet, but if there is a big name fans want to see on the album, it's 50's mentor and rap superstar Eminem.

"You gotta get @eminem on Pop's album" wrote one eager fan.

50 has also asked singer Chris Brown to be a guest on the album (REUTERS)

Pop Smoke’s family released a public statement on the killing yesterday, saying: "Unfortunately, there are no public details available regarding the murder of our loved one.

"We ask for respect and responsible reporting during this critical time."

Adding: "Inaccurate reports only add unnecessary pain to a grieving family."
