'£50,000' of jewellery stolen from Nottingham city centre business

More than £50,000 worth of jewellery has been stolen from a jewellers in Nottingham city centre after burglars are thought to have struck during the night.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to reports of the break-in at Goldsmiths Jewellers in Victoria Street at around 11.20am on Sunday, May 24 - but it's believed the burglary happened overnight.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the high value burglary. No arrests have been made.

The force believes the thieves struck by smashing through a wall to get into the jewellers.

Detective Sergeant Ian Holmes of Nottinghamshire Police said: "We believe the suspects have entered the building by smashing a wall through from Bottle Lane.

"Initial enquiries suggest there were a few men involved wearing hooded tops and masks.

"Probably more than £50,000 worth of jewellery has been taken.

"My team is working on this investigation around the clock and we will leave no stone unturned in finding those responsible this crime."

Officers are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time it happened to get in touch on 101 quoting incident 235 of 24 May.
