5-year-old boy dies after being caught in rotating wall at Atlanta restaurant

ATLANTA _ A 5-year-old boy died from a head injury after he was caught in the rotating wall at the Sun Dial restaurant atop the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta on Friday, officials said.

After wandering away from the window table where he was seated with his parents, the boy got caught between the wall and a table, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Stephanie Brown said.

The family was visiting from Charlotte, N.C., Brown said.

Hotel security and staff rushed to help as the automatic shut off stopped the floor from rotating, but the boy's injuries were too severe and he died at Grady Memorial Hospital, Brown said.

He was pronounced dead about an hour after getting caught, WSB-TV reported.

"There was a tragic accident at the hotel involving a young boy," Westin Peachtree Plaza Manager George Reed said in a statement. "Words cannot express the depths of our sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

The Westin, on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta, is the same hotel where a kitchen worker died after getting locked in a freezer last year. Carolyn Robinson, 61, who worked for the Westin company for more than 35 years, got locked in a walk-in freezer just after 8 p.m. March 22.
