Dec. 13--A 5-year-old boy and at least 10 other people were injured Saturday in shootings on the city's South and West sides, police said.
Authorities believe the 5-year-old may have accidentally shot himself in the hand about 4:25 p.m. Saturday. He was in the 5900 block of South Calumet Avenue in the city's Washington Park neighborhood when he was shot. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
Police said a man who is not the child's father was placed under arrest in the incident, and charges are pending.
The most recent shooting was at about 5:25 a.m. Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
A 31-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 800 block of North Central Park Avenue. He was driven to Mount Sinai Hospital and was in guarded condition. Information about the circumstances of the shooting was not immediately available.
A 27-year-old man was shot at 3:45 a.m. Sunday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, according to Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.
He was in the 4700 block of South Ashland Avenue when he was grazed in the head, Gaines said. He went to University of Chicago medical center, and his condition was stabilized.
At 2:50 a.m. Sunday, a 34-year-old man was shot in the Gage Park neighborhood, Gaines said.
He was in the 3100 block of West 53rd Street when he was shot in the hand. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
At 2:24 a.m., a 59-year-old man was shot in the Princeton Park neighborhood, Gaines said.
He was unloading his vehicle when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition.
At 1:45 a.m., a 38-year-old man was critically wounded in the Logan Square neighborhood, Gaines said. He was arguing with two people in the 3000 block of North Drake Avenue, one of whom fired at him. He was hit in the neck and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
About 12:05 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the South Austin neighborhood. He was in a business in the 500 block of South Cicero Avenue when he was shot in the lower left leg, Gaines said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
A 15-year-old boy was wounded at 11:10 p.m. Saturday in the Washington Park neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
He was outside in the 5200 block of South Wabash Avenue when he was grazed in the ear, Alfaro said. He also was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
About 3:25 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, Alfaro said.
He was standing in the 2000 block of West 48th Street when someone exited an approaching vehicle and fired shots. He was hit in the neck and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
About 2:30 p.m., a man and a woman, both 23 years old, were shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
They were standing in the 3800 block of West Augusta Boulevard when someone approached and fired shots at them, Alfaro said.
The man was shot in the groin and went to Norwegian American Hospital. He later was transferred to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The woman was was shot in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
