The Eagles have been moving and shaking during the NFL Combine, and after agreeing to extensions with Brandon Graham and Jason Kelce, Howie Roseman and company need to see about possibly adding a veteran signal caller to compete with Nate Sudfeld. Eagles head Coach Doug Pederson and GM Howie Roseman gave Sudfeld the lukewarm vote of confidence as Wentz’s backup after it was announced that Nick Foles would become a free agent. Roseman stated that Sudfeld would have “to compete for that spot.”
The Eagles are likely to bring in an established veteran to battle with Sudfeld and here are five that could help stabilize the position 1-3.
Tyrod Taylor
The former Bills and Browns quarterback has similar playing styles Carson Wentz and likes to use his mobility. Taylor makes a lot of sense and he’d enter the organization knowing full well that he’s the backup and a pretty great professional to go along with it.
Case Keenum
The Broncos want Keenum back at a reduced rate, and if he’s really that hurt about losing his spot to Joe Flacco, Keenum could be a nice addition to the Eagles at a reduced rate.
Teddy Bridgewater
Bridgewater could enter the open market again, or stand pat with being Drew Brees backup and heir apparent. If he decides to leave New Orleans, Bridgewater could once again take a 1-year deal as he continues to search for his own franchise.
Blake Bortles
With former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Nick Foles heading to Jacksonville, the Jaguars are expected to cut ties with former first-round pick Blake Bortles as the franchise quarterback, and he’ll need somewhere to land. Bortles is no threat to quarterback Carson Wentz and would provide a capable signal-caller if the Eagles star gets banged up or has to miss some time.
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick had his moments subbing for the suspended Jameis Winston in 2018, but at this point, its unlikely anyone will sign Fitzpatrick to be anything other than a backup. Fitzpatrick torched the Eagles early last season and could be a valuable asset for the Eagles locker room.
