5 under-the-radar free agents the Giants could consider

The New York Giants have $73 million in salary cap space to spend on players this spring and, unfortunately for them, this free agent class isn’t considered to be one of more enticing ones in recent years.

Yet, there are always gems to be found and at a bargain sometimes. This is where the Giants can scoop up some decent talent for reasonable amounts.

But let’s not forget what free agency is all about: filling the holes in your roster and addressing your immediate needs. They can do that with some under-the-radar moves.

Here are five players I’d like to see them put bids on:

Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

Logan Ryan, CB, Tennessee Titans

The former Rutgers and New England Patriots star should be very high on the Giants’ shopping list. They need a veteran corner who knows the ropes and how to win and the connection to Joe Judge and Patrick Graham has to come into play here.

Nick Kwiatkoski, LB, Chicago Bears

Not so much under-the-radar any longer, Kwiatkoski filled in admirably for Danny Trevathan last year and put some solid numbers. The Giants will probably inquire about him but won’t get into a bidding war. If he’s there, and reasonably priced, I can see them signing him. They need inside linebackers and this kid has shown promise.

Hunter Henry, TE, Los Angeles Chargers

The Giants’ tight end group is in flux. Evan Engram’s injury history is clouding his future and the Giants have a huge decision to make with his fifth-year option. Rhett Ellison is pondering retirement and Kaden Smith is still fairly raw. Henry is top talent who just hasn’t been able to stay on the field, but when he does, you can see how good he can be. The word is the Chargers may tag Henry, but if they don’t, the Giants should show interest.

Bud Dupree, EDGE, Pittsburgh

The 27-year-old former first rounder out of Kentucky set career-high marks in sacks (11.5), tackles (68), tackles for a loss (16) and QB hits (17) last season. The Steelers are considering slapping the franchise on Dupree but if they don’t, the Giants should be heavily in the mix for his services.

Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati Bengals

Why would the Giants want Eifert? Because he’ll probably come cheap and if he stays healthy can become a huge crutch for Daniel Jones, especially in the red zone. But the health issue is still a hurdle and they will only take a look if Ellison retires and they don’t sign Henry.
