5 trends from Milan Fashion Week AW19 to embrace now

Graphic dots

When is a polka dot not a polka dot? When it’s a graphic splodge.

More Hewlett Packard (in a good way) than Yayoi Kusama, Marni’s AW19 recurring motif found a home on long-sleeved dresses and shirts. For creative director Francesco Risso, it was a means of exploring contrasts and erotocism in a digital age. This was high-tech fashion for the intellectual crowd.

Milan is the the spiritual home of the camel coat, so of course it fell to an Italian to take our current infatuation with all things neutral to a new level. At a showcase which was a celebration of the life of creative director Karl Lagerfeld, Silvia Fendi gave us butterscotch and salted caramel on leather shirts and parkas for the super-posh.

Among the most romantic inclusions to Miuccia Prada’s showcase was a herringbone, off-shoulder dress that’s set to break hearts. The silhoutte, which will put shoulders on the agenda next season, also featured in Marco De Vincenzo’s new collection. Worn with dishevelled hair, this is classic Italian glamour for a modern woman.
