5 traits the Jets must look for in Adam Gase’s replacement

The Jets have an important offseason on their hands, and it will start with finding their next head coach after the team fired Adam Gase.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero said the Jets will conduct a “lengthy and thorough search” for a new head coach that could include Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Ravens defensive coordinator Don Martindale and Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, among others.

Whomever the Jets tab as their next coach will play a crucial role in the construction of the team Joe Douglas spent the past 19 months building, as well as grooming the players the Jets draft in April – especially if they take a quarterback with the No. 2 pick. They’ll need to make sure the person they hire can finally vault the franchise into the postseason, something the Jets haven’t tasted since 2010.
