5 things we spotted from Rangers training as Bongani Zungu gets stuck in ahead of Lech Poznan clash

The excitement of the Europa League is back upon us but it's a real shame there's no crowds involved at Ibrox on Thursday night.

The Rangers players continued their preparations at the training centre on Wednesday afternoon and there was a new face among the players too.

Bongani Zungu finally joined up with the squad after his loan move from Amiens and he'll have hoped to make a quick impact on Steven Gerrard.

The Rangers boss oversaw training and will have plenty of choices to make ahead of the 8pm kick-off on Thursday night.

Here's 5 things we spotted at Rangers training ahead of their clash with Lech Poznan.

Kent's conundrum

Ryan Kent started the season on fire but by his standards he's had a bit of a drop off in recent weeks. That's not to say he's played poorly, he's still constantly a danger to the opposition defence when on the ball. But he's looked a bit tired during games in the last couple of weeks.

Kent has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season and all 15 have been starts. Only James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have started more games than him and he has started looking a bit weary. Although he’s been at Rangers for two seasons now, a mixture of injuries last season and being in and out of the team in his first campaign means this is the first year he’s really getting that sort of game time.

With the league so important, Gerrard might have a decision to make on when is best to rest the winger so he doesn’t get burnt out.

Aribo adds strength

Joe Aribo has always been a footballer that is hard to steal the ball from. His incredible close control was developed in the cages of South London and he's now translating that skill onto the pitch.

He looks like he's bulked up his upper body and adding that extra strength will make it even more difficult to tackle him. Aribo is now back in the squad after more than two months out injured and he made his first start since August in the 2-0 win over Livingston, grabbing his second goal of the campaign.

His other strike came in his last start against St Johnstone in what was a very bright start to the season. If he can continue to add goals to his game then defences in Scotland won't know where to concentrate when they come up against Rangers.

Kamara control

It's the Finland international's birthday and Rangers fans are now truly in love with the midfielder being dubbed 'Kamaradona'. A rejigged version of Oasis hit She's Electric has even been sung in his honour and he's continuing to make his £50k transfer fee look like the bargain of the century. Even in training it looks like he barely loses possession and he's so important to Gerrard's midfield with his ability to cover for the marauding runs of full backs. He seems to be adding more of an attacking threat to his game this year in terms of his passing of the ball and has produced some excellent displays already

Zungu joins in

His two week quarantine is up after joining the club and Bongani Zungu finally got the chance to show his new team-mates what he can do. The Bafana Bafana star is back in the national team set up and will hope for some game time before heading away on international duty next month. He may have taken a leaf out of the Robbie Keane PR handbook when signing for a new club with his suggestion his dad often spoke to him about Rangers back in South Africa but if he plays as cleverly as he talks, Rangers fans are in for a treat.

Young gun get a chance

You're looking at this picture and wondering how James Tavernier and Cedric Itten can be classed as a young gun. But look just behind them and you'll see the fresh face of Ciaran Dickson. There was a suggestion in the summer that he might be on his way out of the club and according to reports down south, he spent a short time on trial at Sheffield United. But he's been included with the first team in training session and it's another sign that Gerrard might be starting to trust his academy players. Leon King was the latest to be included on the bench last week, while Nathan Patterson has been a regular in squads this season. Young goalkeeper Brian Kinnear has also regularly been involved in training.
