5 things we spotted at Celtic training as Ryan Christie sets example for young guns

Another week, another big step towards yet another Premiership title from Celtic after they brushed aside a game Motherwell on Wednesday to keep the momentum ticking over.

The games come thick and fast at this time of year, however, as attentions now turn to a potential banana skin at Clyde.

The cup offers the chance to rotate, and that will likely be the case at the weekend with clashes with Hearts, Aberdeen and Copenhagen all following in quick succession.

With that in mind there were more than a few first-team stars left out of the action on Thursday morning as the likes of Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard focused on recovery work.

For the newcomers, fringe stars and others who haven't featured so much recently, however, things carried on as per usual, and here are five things we spotted.

5 things we spotted at training

Soro smiles

His name might be Ismaila Soro but there was no despair on show as the midfielder used his humour to ingratiate himself with his new teammates. He might be yet to make his debut but seemed to be having the time of his life as he took to the Lennoxtown pitch, which will be starting to feel like a second home for the Ivorian as he settles into the Glasgow lifestyle.

Setting the tone

In a session dominated by fringe players, it can be important to have an established pro or two around to set an example and keep things moving forward. With Ryan Christie still edging his way towards full fitness, it was he who was tasked with playing the elder statesman, and his focused demeanour told you all you needed to know about his effectiveness in that role.

How's your touch?

Having not featured since November as he continues his own recovery from injury, Mohamed Elyounoussi has been right back in amongst it, showing the sort of skill that helped him to seven goals before his prolonged spell on the sidelines. His first touch looked as deft as ever as he showed off with some keepy-uppy - the sort of showboating that doesn't often go down well with SPFL defenders.

Boli's balaclava

That is Boli Bolingoli, by the way, if you couldn't tell from the obscured pair of eyes - the number 23 on his training gear gives him away. He's lost his starting spot to Greg Taylor as of late, but with Neil Lennon favouring a new 3-5-2 system, the wing-back must fancy his chances of wrestling his way back into the team. He'll have to lose the snood for match-day though.

Young guns

With many of the established first-teamers resting up, the chance was there for the likes of Ewan Henderson, Barry Coffey and Armstrong Oko-Flex to make their mark. They're no strangers to being put through their paces with the pros but they were looking to make their mark with the limelight firmly on them, and may well get the chance to do so again at Broadwood when Sunday rolls around.
