5 things we noticed as Liverpool youngsters join in with pre-season training session

Some of the Liverpool team were in training on Tuesday ahead of the club's pre-season tour of the US.

A number of academy youngsters were invited to take part in the session to help make up the numbers as the likes of Adam Lallana, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain took centre-stage.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds travel to Tranmere on July 11 before facing off against Yorkshire club Bradford.

From there they head Stateside where they take on Dortmund at the Notre Dame Stadium on July 19 and then Sevilla at Fenway Park on July 21.

Liverpool's pre-season tour concludes against Sporting Lisbon on July 24, where the two sides will face off in New York at the Yankee Stadium.

Here's five things we noticed from Tuesday's training session at Melwood.

1. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is raring to go

He might have spent the majority of last season in the medical room, but Oxlade-Chamberlain is fighting fit and ready to get his Reds career back on track next season.

2. Joe Gomez doesn't skip leg day

The Reds centre-back showed off his incredible leg muscles on Tuesday while stretching for a loose ball. And you thought footballers let themselves go over the summer, eh?

3. Youngsters get a chance to shine

A number of academy stars hit the Melwood training ground on Tuesday including Bobby Duncan and George Johnston as well as first team youngsters Curtis Jones and Harry Wilson.

4. James Milner just doesn't stop running

He might be 33 years old now but he doesn't have his eye on retirement just yet. Instead, he's still more than happy to sprint around in the sun at Melwood.

5. A break-through year for this boy?

Klopp is a big fan of Rhian Brewster and you'd have to assume this will be the year the German gently introduces him to the Liverpool first team.
