5 things to know about new Eagles DT Hassan Ridgeway

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired a massive defensive tackle during the 2019 NFL Draft, when Howie Roseman traded a 7th round pick, to the Colts for Hassan Ridgeway.

Ridgeway will join a stacked defensive tackle group that includes the All-Pro Fletcher Cox, Malik Jackson, Treyvone Hester, Bruce Hector, and the recently re-signed Timmy Jernigan. Jackson is a versatile defender that can move up and down the line, but it’ll still be difficult for Ridgeway to make the team unless he finds a niche during training camp.

Here are five things to know about the newest Philadelphia Eagles defender.

1. Ridgeway has one year left on his contract and has a cap hit of just over $800,000.

2. Ridgeway is the second defensive tackle the Eagles have acquired since Thursday, signing tackle Timmy Jernigan back on Thursday.

3. Ridgeway has battled injuries the last two seasons and will likely have to beat out Treyvon Hester and Bruce Hector for a roster spot.

4. Coming out of college, Ridgeway’s rare combination of power and athleticism is something NFL brass covet, but he’s yet to have an impactful season in the NFL.

5. Ridgeway attended Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Texas, before committing to the University of Texas at Austin to play college football.
