5 things to know about new Cardinals DBs coach Marcus Robertson

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday their full coaching staff, adding seven assistants and retaining five others. Their new defensive backs coach is Marcus Robertson.

He held the same position the last two seasons as part of new Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph’s defensive staff on the Denver Broncos.

He has coached defensive backs the last 12 seasons, spending time with the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders and Broncos.

Here are five facts you should know about Robertson, which come from the team’s press release announcing his hiring:

  • In 2018, Robertson helped the Broncos tie for fifth in the NFL in interceptions (17) after helping Denver rank fourth in the NFL in pass defense (200.6 ypg) in 2017.
  • Aqib Talib earned his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl selection in 2017 under Robertson’s tutelage.
  • During his two seasons as defensive backs coach for the Raiders in 2015-2016, Oakland ranked eighth in the NFL with 30 interceptions and sixth in the league with 163 passes defensed.
  • Charles Woodson (2015) and Reggie Nelson (2016) were each selected to the Pro Bowl with Robertson as their position coach.
  • In 2008, when he was assistant secondary coach for the Tennessee Titans, the had three first-time Pro Bowl selections (Cortland Finnegan, Chris Hope, Michael Griffin).
