The Rams dipped back into the pool of defensive backs during the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller at No. 199 overall. He’s the Rams’ second pick in the secondary, joining Terrell Burgess as newcomers in the DBs room.
Here are five things to know about Fuller, including a fact about his famous relatives, Sinbad and Cindy Mizelle.
His family knows fame
Fuller’s family certainly knows fame. Not only is his uncle Sinbad, but his mother is singer Cindy Mizelle, who’s performed with Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones, among others.
Sinbad spoke to the Ohio State football team two years ago, attempting to fire them up before a game.
Rarely tested in coverage
If there’s one thing quarterbacks had in common when facing Ohio State, it’s that they stayed away from Fuller’s area. According to Pro Football Focus, Fuller was targeted only once per 32 coverage snaps, which was the best rate among all safeties last season.
Still, Fuller managed to come down with two interceptions and four passes defensed despite having very few passes thrown his way.
His brother also made it to the NFL
The Fuller brothers are quite the athletic pair. Devin Fuller was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016 after spending his college career at UCLA. He was a return specialist and wide receiver, though he never appeared in a regular-season game.
Was an Academic All-American in 2017
Fuller certainly checks the character box for the Rams. He was an Academic All-American in 2017 and actually created a seminar to educate students about sexual assault. It should come as no surprise that he was a captain for the last two years at Ohio State, emerging as a leader after a successful first two seasons with the Buckeyes.
Gatorade Player of the Year in N.J.
In high school, Fuller was exceptional. At Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan in New Jersey, he was an all-around athlete. As a senior in 2016, he rushed for 747 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also racking up 886 yards receiving on only 33 catches. He played defense, too, making 44 tackles with six interceptions, en route to being named Gatorade Player of the Year in New Jersey and being a four-star recruit.
