The Cincinnati Bengals turned a bunch of heads in Round 2 of the NFL draft with the selection of Clemson wideout Tee Higgins.
Higgins joins the fray in Cincinnati and looks like an immediate boost to the offense alongside weapons like A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd.
Here’s a quick, fun look at some fast Higgins facts.
He’s a Bengals fan!
Have to start with this one, right? Higgins made it clear in a meet with the media that he’s long been a Bengals fan.
It isn’t often a collegiate player gets to join the team they’ve rooted for — but Higgins looks like a big exception. Now he’ll play a decisive role in whether his favorite team’s next franchise passer pans out and whether his favorite team can compete for titles.
He models his game after A.J. Green
This one deserves a closer look.
Four years ago, Higgins told the world via Twitter he wants to meet A.J. Green.
Well…now he’ll get to do just that. They certainly play similar and Higgins didn’t put up 25 touchdowns over the last two seasons by accident. Now he’ll get to learn from his idol.
Zac Taylor sold Higgins
We’ve often heard about how convincing Bengals head coach Zac Taylor can be.
And it turns out Taylor and Higgins got to have a normal meet before everything got shut down due to coronavirus. Higgins told the media Taylor’s presence and approach had him itching to play in Cincinnati.
Higgins was a basketball star
That trope about big-play wideouts and tight ends being former basketball stars is true with Higgins.
From Tom Kreager of the Nashville Tennessean:
“Higgins excelled on the football field and basketball court during his high school career. He was named the 2015 and 2016 Tennessee Titans Class 5A Mr. Football Back of the Year. He was also a Mr. Basketball finalist in 2016 after averaging 15 points and 6.6 rebounds his junior season.”
Higgins had some D1 offers for basketball but chose football. Let’s just say it worked out.
Chad Johnson was not happy about Higgins falling
Bengals legend Chad Johnson knows a thing or two about wide receivers.
And Thursday night after Round 1, he wasn’t too happy about the fact Higgins fell out of the opening round.
But now that Higgins is a member of Chad’s Bengals, let’s just say he’s probably quite a bit happier.
