5 takeaways from Day 9 of Titans training camp

The Tennessee Titans got back to action at Saint Thomas Sports Park for Day 9 of training camp practices on Monday.

On the day, we saw limited action from Mariota, A.J. Brown return to the field in a very limited way and learned of one player on the PUP list who will indeed take part in the preseason.

Here are five takeaways from the day’s practice.

1. It was a light day for QB Marcus Mariota.

We didn’t see a lot of the starter on Monday, as he participated in individual drills, but his workload faltered greatly after that. Both Ryan Tannehill and Logan Woodside gave some good looks as they took the reins, giving Titans fans something to trust in at backup.

2. Yes, Derrick Henry and A.J. Brown still aren’t practicing.

The established rusher and the promising rookie wideout aren’t being rushed back into the action — and there’s no legitimate reason for them to be. Both players continue recover from leg injuries, but should be plenty ready to go by the start of the season.

Brown is already making strides, jogging before practice and throwing to the receivers.

3. Dennis Kelly continues to practice at left tackle.

As camp continues, it’s looking more and more like Kelly will take over Taylor Lewan’s position as he faces a four-game suspension.

Here’s what the first-team offensive line looked like, per Jim Wyatt.

Dennis Kelly (LT), Rodger Saffold (LG), Ben Jones (C), Kevin Pamphile (RG) and Jack Conklin (RT).

4. Ryan Succop will be present in the preseason.

We haven’t seen a lot of Succop, but the team won’t be without him in the preseason.

From Jim Wyatt:

“Kicker Ryan Succop remains on the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list, but Vrabel indicated after practice he expects to see him kick at some point in the preseason.”

5. The Hook-and-Ladder makes an appearance.

Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans brought back an old Hook-and-Ladder play, but that’s all the information Jim Wyatt could give. After all, you can’t broadcast too much top-secret information like this, right?

We’re sure the Jacksonville Jaguars would love to hear more.
