The writing was on the wall, but there was still hope.
After appearing to be a solid lock to commit to Ohio State for the class of 2020, things started to go the other way with five-star running back Bijan Robinson early last week. There were whispers of him telling the OSU coaches that he was no longer looking to Columbus. In the end, the rumors and information was correct, as Robinson announced his commitment to Texas Friday.
We may not ever really know what happened in the recruitment of what 247Sports rates as the No. 3 running back and 20th overall prospect in the entire class, but things abruptly changed after reports had him strongly in the bag for Ohio State.
Now, after losing out on its top two running back targets for the 2020 recruiting cycle — Jaylan Knighton being the other — the Buckeye staff will need to readdress and reassess who it wants to go after so it can get the two absolute best backs it can.
For now though, the news and situation revolving around the recruitment of Robinson will be one that we use as a cautionary tale of how quickly things can change in the high-stakes grocery grab that can occur with today’s prospects.
