5 small-school prospects the Cardinals could target in the draft

Since Steve Keim became general manager in 2013, the Arizona Cardinals have had an affinity for drafting small school prospects. From last year with Chase Edmonds from Fordham, to successful stories like Rodney Gunter to less so like Marqui Christian, Arizona likes to look at FCS players and even smaller.
Here are some they could look at this draft:

Khalen Saunders, DT, Western Illinois

We can start with the obvious one here — much like Rodney Gunter, Saunders comes from a very small, almost unheard of school and is a huge, athletic defensive lineman.

However, very much unlike Gunter, Saunders is on everyone’s radar after going to the Senior Bowl and performing quite well. He could be a target on Day 2 or early Day 3 for Arizona in a deep draft along the defensive line.

He’s also quite the athletic freak:

Also watch for: Derick Roberson, OLB, Sam Houston St.

Tytus Howard, OT, Alabama A&T

Much like Saunders, Howard put himself on the map at the Senior Bowl.

He’s very raw, but the ex-high school QB has a lot of upside and the scouting community has noticed. He could be a future starter at tackle but likely won’t come off the board until Round 3 in the draft,

Also watch for: Marquez Tucker, who the Cardinals set up a visit with already.

Keelan Doss, WR, UC-Davis

Another player who impressed at the Senior Bowl, Doss has some amazing production to back up the bit of hype he received for being a great route runner.

In his last two years at U.C. Davis, Doss caught 115 and 118 passes respectively, which is quite impressive. Doss likely would be a Day 3 target — possibly with one of those 3 current 7th rounders Arizona has.

Also watch for: Jazz Ferguson, Northwestern State, who has also visited with Arizona.

Yet another player who impressed at the Senior bowl, Ballentine would fill a position if need at corner for Arizona and add good depth.

He likely could be targeted on Day 3 as well and Arizona loves to draft Senior Bowl players. They also visited with him while there.

Also watch for: Jimmy Moreland, James Madison

Bruce Anderson, RB, North Dakota St.

The North Dakota State alum didn’t have amazing statistics, but comes from perhaps FCS’s best program. He’s also a receiving threat out of the backfield which should help his stock.

He likely could be had on late Day 3 as well and would provide depth provided he could add value on special teams.

Also watch out for: Wes Hills, Slippery Rock
