5 Seahawks who cashed in on contract guarantees Friday

Five members of the Seattle Seahawks collected some cold, hard cash by way of contract guarantees that were triggered on Friday.

The most notable is Kam Chancellor’s $5.2M, just over half of his $10M base salary for 2019. Chancellor will likely be released before he receives the rest of his money, but the $5.2M was guaranteed to him regardless and cutting him before Friday would have been an even bigger hit to Seattle’s cap space.

Besides Chancellor, four other Seahawks saw a nice payday on Friday: left tackle Duane Brown ($1.75M), wide receiver Tyler Lockett ($3.907M), center Justin Britt ($2.25M) and safety Bradley McDougald ($1M).

Brown and Lockett were each named to Pro Football Focus’ list of the top-101 players of 2018, with Brown earning an All-Pro nod and Lockett finishing with far and away the best season of his NFL career.

McDougald broke out with an outstanding season as well, filling in admirably for Chancellor and earning an excellent 74.7 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Britt was once again a steady force on Seattle’s tremendously improved offensive line.

Seattle has plenty of challenging decisions heading into 2019 but keeping each of these four players on their current contracts won’t be one of them.
