5 Seahawks stories from last week Cardinals fans should know

Another week has gone by and it is time to look around the NFC West to see what is happening in the rest of the division. What has been going on with the Seattle Seahawks in the last week?

Here are some stories to know.

Pete Carroll would like to completely scrap instant replay

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

While many would like to see instant replay expanded so more calls are made correctly, Carroll does not. In fact, he would reduce or even eliminate it, allowing the human element back in the game for officials.

Mike Iupati ‘jumped off the film’ at OTAs

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Cardinals fans will recognize this story. Iupati, who signed with the Seahawks as a free agent, is impressing in the offseason. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Iupati “jumped off the tape” in his first look at him.

Iupati does this every year and then gets hurt in the regular season.

No Bobby Wagner in OTAs

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals have not had star cornerback Patrick Peterson at voluntary OTAs. The Seahawks are going through the same thing with Wagner. He is doing it differently, though. He is present but will not practice. He wants a new contract.

RB Rashaad Penny showed up leaner, stronger

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Seahawks hope to have a great one-two punch at running back with Penny, their 2018 first-round pick, and Chris Carson. Penny has done his part on the offseason so far. He transformed his body a bit, showing up to OTAs leaner but stronger. He will get all the first-team reps while Carson sits out recovering from a minor knee procedure.

DK Metcalf signs rookie contract, Russell Wilson calls him ‘freak’

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The Seahawks officially signed second-round draft pick DK Metcalf, a big receiver, to his rookie contract. Quarterback Russell Wilson was impressed with what he has seen physically from his rookie target.

“I think in terms of DK Metcalf coming in, he’s a freak of nature,” Wilson told reporters Tuesday, via Seahawks Wire. “He’s a guy that can run as fast as can be. He can go up and get it, he can run all the routes and stuff like that. So it’ll be exciting to see his evolution, I think his work ethic and everything else.”

Pass-rushing role for Shaquem Griffin?

 Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Seahawks are trying out giving Griffin opportunities off the edge as a pass rusher. So far, things look good. That could be his role in 2019.
