5 reasons why people love to go to Bulwell Bogs Splash Park

With the summer holidays now upon us and Covid restrictions lifted, there's plenty to be excited about outdoors.

But for those unable to travel further afield, there is a unique park in one Nottingham area that grows more popular once it's in use during the summer.

Bulwell Bog Splash Park is a playground and water park off Main Street in Bulwell where parents can bring their children during the good weather.

Now it's getting busier, Nottinghamshire Live spoke to visitors of the park to find out why they like visiting so much.

1) Great for children

Sandra Stevens, 67, is one visitor who frequently sits on a bench by the River Leen near the park.

She said: "I think it's a great little water park and in the summer it's great when the schools are out.

"The children seem to have a great time - regardless if the sun is shining or not.

"It's such a great community asset to have in the local area."

2) Good location in the city

Residents from areas such as Cinderhill, Aspley, and other parts of Nottingham seem to be making good use of the park.

One mother who brought her son down to the park is Sarah James, 35, from Cinderhill.

She said: "The water park wasn't on when we came here before so I'm glad to see it's in use now.

"Before the pandemic my son was too young to use it but I will bring him down to use it now. It's really cute.

"There's a lot of council houses around here and lots of the people probably don't have gardens so it's nice they can use this.

"The location is really good too because it's by all the shops here. You can make a day of it."

3) It's free!

Another mum at the park with her son was Leanne Smith, 37.

She said: "As soon as my son saw the water, he was off and there was no stopping him.

"When the weather is really good, I can imagine it gets busy.

"It's free too which is brilliant for lots of families here. I live nearby and didn't even know about it until recently."

4) Close to nature

Michelle Scott, 36 and from Aspley, added: "We live about 10 minutes away and come down quite frequently.

"We just love that it's so close to nature. There are lots of ducks that we come to feed.

"The playground is really good for families too and the people are all friendly.

"The dogs you see around here are nice and friendly too"

The park is located right next to the River Leen where birds are often spotted.

5) The peace and quiet

Steven Richardson, also from Aspley returned to the park for the first time in a few years.

The 62-year-old said: "I've not been here in quite some time but it is really nice here.

"It's a nice spot to come in the mornings for a bit of peace and quiet.

"It's right by the shops and you can see people going about their days just sat here.

"It could probably do with a bit of a clean, but it's not shabby. It's a shame there aren't more of these nice little green spaces left in the city."
