This Saturday, Georgia football kicks off its 2019 season against Vanderbilt at 7:30 p.m. ET in Nashville, Tennessee.
The game, which Georgia is a three touchdown favorite in, will be broadcasted on SEC Network.
It’s a nice change of pace for Georgia – getting to play a conference game in the first week of the season. Coming in at No. 3 in the country, Georgia will be wanting to get things off to a hot start after a disappointing final two games of 2018. But then there’s Vanderbilt, which would love nothing more than to deliver an upset on the No. 3 ranked team on their home turf.
Regardless, we all expect Georgia to win this game, and here are five reasons why:
The Dawgs will dominate the trenches
Georgia returns college football’s best offensive line in the country this season. The Bulldogs are better at every single o-line position, and their backups are probably better than Vandy’s starters as well. Last season, Vanderbilt had 22 sacks, which was 97th in the nation. I doubt all that much has changed since 2018.
On defense, Georgia did not rack up too many sacks last season, only getting 24. That was 84th in the nation. Kirby Smart has put a big emphasis on creating chaos this offseason, and something tells me these Dawgs will be a lot more productive in opponent’s backfields.
Georgia travels well, as you know
One of my favorite pictures is an aerial view of Vanderbilt Stadium. The photo showed Georgia fans, in 2017, completely taking over the Commodores Stadium and turning into essentially a UGA home game.
With how much ticket prices for this game have gone up, I assume Georgia fans are once again planning on traveling to support their Dawgs in Nashville. If true, any first-game road jitters might be thrown out the window when the Georgia players see all that red and black.
Jake Fromm is ready
Fromm is ready to do this thing. His first two years have been stellar. What does that mean for his third season as signal caller for Georgia? This could be his final season in Athens, so you know he is going to be completely dialed in all season long. He has had an entire offseason to prepare for this one game; he’s not going to mess it up or come out sluggish like we saw at points last season.
Georgia’s offensive play calling will be less predictable, faster-paced
With James Coley taking over for Jim Chaney as new offensive coordinator, expect a more creative and uptempo offensive attack. Last season, the Georgia offense was really good, but defenses were able to predict a lot of what was coming at them. Now, Vandy has no idea what to expect from Coley. There will be some plays that nobody has seen before and an offensive attack that should throw Vandy off its game considerably early on.
Georgia is a lot better…duh
Do I need to explain this one in great detail? You’ve got Georgia and you’ve got Vanderbilt.
Georgia. Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs are a national title contender this season, for the third year in a row. Georgia is better at every position on the field, and I’d expect the Dawgs to run away with this game early. Kirby Smart teams seem to wake up for every game, not just the big ones. They’re going to roll to a big victory. I’ll say 48-10.
