5 Rams stories from last week for Cardinals fans to know

With another week in the offseason in the books, it is time to go around the NFC West to see what news there is about the Arizona Cardinals’ division rivals. What is new with the Los Angeles Rams?

Here are the stories from last week Cardinals fans should know about related to the Rams.

Eric Weddle compared to Sean McVay

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

McVay is known as perhaps the best offensive mind in the game. Weddle is a very intelligent player and has seen pretty much everything. Teammate Gerald Everett said that Weddle is like having a McVay on defense. The hope is he can take the defense up another level in 2019.

2nd-year player could emerge as starting NT

 Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Rams must replace Ndamukong Suh on the defensive line and many believe rookie Greg Gaines will be that player. However, 2018 sixth-round pick is impressing and could emerge as the starter after being inactive all 16 games as a rookie.

Todd Gurley’s knee issue much smaller than torn ACL

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Rams is the health of running back Todd Gurley’s knee. He did not practice during OTAs and is working on getting healthy. He will practice in training camp and is expected to be fine when the season comes around but what the issue is with his knee is still not exactly known. However, he did reveal it is a much smaller issue than the torn ACL he had coming out of college.

Andrew Whitworth wanted to finish contract

 Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Many believed Whitworth might retire after last season. His wife even thought so. However, he wanted to play out his contract, as he signed through 2019. It appears this year might be his last in the league.

Lots of talk about Jared Goff’s contract

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

With the Philadelphia Eagles inking QB Carson Wentz to a huge contract extension, the attention has turned to the Rams and Goff, who was selected one pick ahead of Wentz, has been healthier and has also had great team success.

Goff, while happy about Wentz’ deal, especially since the two share an agent, he isn’t focusing on his contract. Sean McVay said there is absolutely no chance the Rams don’t sign Goff to an extension. McVay also hopes he and Goff get to work together for many, many years.
