5 patients diagnosed with Covid-19 die at King's Mill Hospital

Five people have died at King's Mill Hospital after testing positive for coronavirus, the hospital trust has today confirmed.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS trust put out a statement on its website on March 27, confirming that the patients had died between March 22 and yesterday, March 26.

All patients were in their seventies or eighties and had underlying health conditions.

Richard Mitchell, chief executive for the trust, said: "We can confirm that sadly, five patients have passed away at King’s Mill Hospital between Sunday, March 22, and Thursday, March 26.

"The patients who were all in their seventies or eighties had tested positive for Covid-19 and all had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time."

Nottingham University Hospitals has confirmed six deaths from Covid-19 across its two sites.

It comes as the UK's total confirmed cases reached 14,579 on March 27, with the death toll jumping to 759.

Official figures for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are expected to be announced at about 5pm.

It has also been confirmed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock have tested positive for the virus.
