5 Nottinghamshire boroughs and districts have highest ever Covid rates for new infections

Several districts in the county have recorded the highest rate of new Covid-19 cases since comparable records began last summer, latest figures show.

Public Health England data reveals that ten parts of the East Midlands have surpassed the previous infection peaks, five of which are in Nottinghamshire.

Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Newark & Sherwood, and Rushcliffe have now recorded their highest ever rates.

The figures, for the seven days to July 15, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.

It comes as face masks are no longer compulsory in shops and on public transport from yesterday (July 19).

Previous restrictions including limits on social gatherings have been scrapped, and work from home guidance has ended.

Around one in six areas in England are now reporting their highest rate of new Covid-19 cases since comparable records began last summer, when mass testing was first introduced in the UK.

Data also shows that every local area in England is now recording coronavirus rates above the symbolic level of 100 cases per 100,000 people for the first time since the peak of the second wave in early January.

The figures below reveal the latest Covid rates for new infections in the most affected areas in Nottinghamshire.
