€5 million committed to restoring 100 derelict Dublin City Council flats

€5 million worth of funding has been committed to restoring 100 derelict Dublin City Council flats.

The funding was announced yesterday by the Department of Housing, and the Council plan to re-let the apartments before the end of 2021.

The apartments are located at Pearse House, Oliver Bond House and Basin Street on the Southside, as well as Lissadel Maisonettes in Drimnagh, and Crinian Strand, Hardwicke Street, Matt Talbot Court and Dorset Street over the Northside.

All of the sites have been previously earmarked for regeneration by the Council, but all of the flats in question will have been left lying empty for five years jad they not been done up, according to RTE.

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said: "The regeneration process can take a long time to bring to full fruition and these vacant flats could be left vacant for a significant period of time which is hard to justify during a housing crisis."

They added that the redevelopment of the individual units wouldn't get in the way of wider regeneration at any of the sites.
