5 Man Utd keep or sell decisions Ralf Rangnick has made ahead of January transfer window

Ralf Rangnick will get the chance to begin stamping some kind of authority of this Manchester United squad next month.

The German is occupying a role in the dugout for the remainder of the season and after that is anyone's guess.

Rangnick is set to remain at Old Trafford in some capacity though, with his eye for a player set to benefit the Red Devils.

His recruitment record in Germany, especially with the Red Bull outfits, will bring plenty of optimism.

United invested heavily in the summer, but find themselves with a squad that is arguably too big as they attempt to keep everyone happy.

Several players have made noises about quitting Old Trafford which could back Rangnick and the club into a corner.

The manager has made his stance clear about certain individuals leaving, with his mind seemingly set on some names.

To Sell

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman's agent has confirmed his desire to leave Old Trafford.

Martial's exit has been on the cards, with many feeling he has been unable to produce regularly enough to justify prolonging his United career.

No one doubts the player's quality, but with so many options available there was always going to be those who lost out.

Martial's agent, Philippe Lamboley, has said: “Anthony wishes to leave the club in January. He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”

Rangnick has said that he will not attempt to convince players to stay if they have their sights set on the exit door.

Jesse Lingard

The versatile star has turned down the offer of a new contract at Old Trafford and the club must get rid in January if they do want to cash in.

Lingard was tipped to play a big role for the Red Devils this term having rediscovered his best form on loan at West Ham United last season.

However he has remained on the periphery and now looks to determined to head elsewhere.

A move back to the Hammers has been touted, but it may depend on how much the club demand for him.

Phil Jones

The injury-prone defender signed a new deal recently to keep him in Manchester.

Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson way back in 2011, Jones has been unable to fulfil his potential due to long-term spells on the sideline.

Now, with a host of defenders at Rangnick's disposal, it may be time for he and the club to part ways.

Jones is lacking match sharpness, which may put off potential suitors, although the Sun reported that 13 clubs were tracking the defender.

To Keep

Dean Henderson

The goalkeepers' frustrations will no doubt be mounting as his career stagnates.

Some felt as if he could replace David de Gea last term, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer largely stuck with the Spaniard.

Henderson was hit with Covid in pre-season, which has hampered his ambitions this term, but United will still see him as the long-term option.

The player himself will be desperate for more minutes and Rangnick will no doubt look to oblige as the season goes on.

Donny van de Beek

The Dutchman was signed for big money by Solskjaer but then barely used which continued to raise eyebrows.

His omission, especially internally, become a bone of contention but with a change in the dugout Van de Beek could be allowed to flourish.

The former Ajax man is looking to establish himself in what is already a competitive area.

Bruno Fernandes was a regular under the previous regime, but the Dutchman may feel Rangnick is poised to give him more opportunities having sought a move away from Manchester in the summer.
