On Wednesday morning, it was announced that Scott Pelley will be replaced as the lead anchor for CBS Evening News. Although Pelley will stay on at CBS' 60 Minutes, his departure marks the end of a six-year tenure as the network's lead anchor. The longtime CBS reporter's dismissal from the Evening News, at this point, is not surprising--2017 has been a tumultuous year in the newsroom. Here are five of the biggest shake-ups in the news business this year so far.
1. Megyn Kelly's Departure From Fox News
Megyn Kelly's decision to leave Fox News for NBC was one of the first big news stories in 2017. The departure came in the wake of a very public year for Kelly. In July 2016, she corroborated a sexual harassment claim that led to Roger Ailes' ultimate ouster from Fox News. Drama continued to follow Kelly into the fall, as she became a target of Trump's anti-press campaign. These were likely contributing factors to Kelly's choice to leave her network of 13 years.
Her new program, "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly," is a newsmagazine that will air weekly on NBC. Kelly describes the show as "long-form journalism ... [with] big interviews and investigations." The show will premiere Sunday, June 4, and will test Kelly's ability to win over audiences outside of her Fox News fanbase.
