It’s a new year, which means it’s officially time for a fashion reset. While some trends roll on over from 2025 (hello, polka dots and stripes), it’s guaranteed that we’ll see a few new ones rolling in or returning from the grave. And if last year is a sign of where things are heading, this year is bound to be a big one.
From bag charms to lots of layering, maximalism is slowly creeping back, but not in the sometimes overpowering “more is more” aesthetic we’ve seen in the past. According to stylist Jana Bartolo, “2026 is shaping up as a move toward soft maximalism”.
While people will venture into new, bold territory when it comes to styling, it’ll be more intentional and wearable. Expressive, romantic and layered are the three words she used to describe the trends that will come out of 2026.
“There’s a collection of strong ideas that speak to individuality, heritage and emotional dressing,” Jana told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“These ideas will likely trickle in over time, adapting to season and climate, but the underlying message is clear: expressive, character-driven dressing with intention.”

The 5 Fashion Trends You Can Expect To See Everywhere In 2026
1. Heritage Checks

While stripes will keep their spot in the limelight this year, the heritage check trend that dominated autumn and winter in 2017 is making a comeback. Seen recently in mens runway shows like Ralph Lauren and Zegna, Jana explained that the check is “grounding the season in classic codes while allowing for personality and expression”. Come autumn, expect to see a whole lot of heritage check coats and blazers that are perfect to layer with basics.

2. Romantic ’80s Nostalgia

“The ’80s influence has been building for a while, with cultural moments from artists like Doja Cat hinting at the resurgence,” Jana said.
While the resurgence might not be as dramatic as Doja’s iconic off-shoulder, deep V pastel moment, we can except to see more romance and drama from designers’ upcoming collections.
“Saint Laurent highlighted this with bow details and dramatic silhouettes that feel glamorous yet refined, a clear nod to nostalgic power dressing,” Jana said, referencing the designer’s AW26 runway at Paris Fashion Week last week.
Other nods to this iconic era of fashion that we can expect to see include culottes, sheer fabrics, and fluid shapes that balance out the volume.

3. Double-Breasted Blazers

We’re moving on up in the tailoring world, graduating from single-breast blazers to double!
“Blazers are evolving beyond basic tailoring, with Chanel showing strong, cropped, feminine structures that anchor the season,” Jana told P.TV.
So if you’ve entered your girl boss era, now’s the time to play around and have a little fun with corporate dressing.Your blazers don’t have to be boring!

4. Marching Band Jackets

Ever dreamt of being a French emperor, general, or playing in a marching band? Now, you can! Marching band jackets are creeping into the fashion zeitgeist, and according to Jana, are going to be one of the defining trends of 2026, as part of the overarching theme of structured, uniform-inspired dressing.
“Ralph Lauren’s mens runway reinforced this, with heritage-inspired tailoring and marching-band or Napoleonic-style jackets bringing drama and ceremony into modern dressing,” Jana pointed out.
“These pieces give dressing an elevated, statement-making edge.”
Planning on combining practicality with personality in your outerwear this year? We’ve found pieces that fit the brief.

5. Funnel Necks & Sportswear Elegance

“The Victoria Beckham runway emphasised funnel necks and sportsman-inspired silhouettes, bringing a sense of functional elegance to the season,” Jana said.
Sporty Spice is so back!
Jana said that this emerging trend is all about balancing practicality with sophistication, along with “utilitarian and sculptural silhouettes intertwining into design considerations”.

IDK about you, but I’m excited to integrate these 2026 trends into my existing wardrobe.
