Mega Dragonite is the only confirmed new Mega Evolution coming to Pokémon Legends: Z-A in October, but we know there will be more. We don't know how many and which Pokémon will get the Mega treatment first in Pokémon X and Y. But thanks to talented fans, we get to see what some Pokémon could look like if they were included in that list.
I've picked my five favorite Pokémon from IcyBoy33's art. They made their Mega Pokémon concepts based on an alleged leak posted on 4chan five months ago, where someone claims they have insider information on Pokémon Legends Z-A and shared descriptions of all 26 upcoming Mega Evolutions.
While the list includes Pokémon like Starmie and Skarmory, which never got an alternate or regional form in any game, there are some much more exciting versions of megas than them. Sorry, Victreebel, you're nothing special, and we don't need a new Starmie.
Mega Chandelure
Mega Chandelure looks like one of those massive dining-room chandeliers that alone cost more than my house. This Mega has more arms that hold extra flames to absorb and burn even more spirits than base Chandelure. The flames also look stronger and more menacing, as if ready to burn that same dining room to the ground and turn it into a gigantic pyre. I would love to see Chandelure getting a signature fire move with this Mega.
Mega Dragalge
Base-form Dragalge already looks like a Seadra that was poisoned in the ocean. This Mega Dragalge is being taken over by poison as if it were a living parasite, making the Pokémon more dangerous with its sharper upper limbs and antennas. I want to see Dragalge getting a strong ability like Corrosion so that it can poison Steel and Poison-type Pokémon as well, because if that poisonous dragon can't poison everything, I don't know what can.
Mega Floette
Mega Floette would be the first Pokémon to mega-evolve in its base form rather than in its latest evolution stage, Florges. A red and black flower seems to be decaying in this form, with Floette becoming part of the flower instead of just holding it. The contrast between the dark tones of the death flower and Floette's innocent smile is what makes this concept a great one. If this Mega turns out to be real, it's probably only available to Floette's Eternal Flower form, which can't evolve.
Mega Drampa
Drampa loses its calm and friendly look to become a dark dragon, lord of the sky and thunder. Its standard Pokédex description says it loses its collected look when it becomes angry, so a Mega Drampa would probably lean on that change. What I love about the design is, once again, the contrast between its base form, like a grandpa welcoming you in his house with hot tea and cookies, and the angry face of its mega form that's pissed that you broke his ancient teapot. Its Normal-Dragon typing is underwhelming, but I don't see it changing unless The Pokémon Company gives it strong moves of other types like Electric.
Mega Zygarde
Nothing could be more suited to the star of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Zygarde, than a Mega Evolution that gives it an enormous energy cannon five times its size. If that form comes true, it has to feature a new signature move related to that cannon. This Mega Zygarde concept reminds me of Eternatus in its epic Dynamax form in Pokémon Sword and Shield. I hope PLZA brings a fight against Zygarde in its mega form to close out a story arc.
None of these Pokémon are confirmed to get a Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, so it's all speculation and wishful thinking for now. The list of ALL rumored Pokémon that could get mega versions is:
- Mega Clefable
- Mega Victreebel
- Mega Starmie
- Mega Dragonite
- Mega Meganium
- Mega Feraligatr
