Anthony Martial has made his exit plan clear to Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.
The Frenchman is into his seventh year at Old Trafford but has been unable to establish himself like many expected he would.
Signed as a teenager for a then world record fee, Martial has been unable to deliver after scoring on his debut against Liverpool.
United have a host of attacking options and the Frenchman, struggling for minutes, has decided his future lies elsewhere.
Midseason exits can be tough to negotiate, something Rangnick has made clear, but if a deal can be struck a departure may be feasible.
The German said: “We spoke at length. He explained to me he’s been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it’s the right time for a change, to go somewhere else.

“I think in a way this is understandable, I could follow his thoughts, but on the other hand, it’s also important to see the situation of the club.
“We have Covid times, we have three competitions in which we still have high ambitions and we want to be as successful as we can be.
“I told him 'listen, as long as there is no club showing interest in him [he will stay]' and it should not only be in the interest of the player it should also be in the interest of the club."
Despite Martial's inconsistent form there would still be plenty of interested parties.
We take a look at five possible destinations.
Lyon
The French outfit are still looking to replace Memphis Depay following his summer exit.
The Dutchman was a major source of goals and in his absence no Lyon player has scored more than four times in Ligue 1.
Martial has proven himself capable in the French league with Monaco as a teenager and, when in form, has been prolific in spells in England.
A move back to his homeland, with the club whom he begun as a youngster, may help settle the forward, whose mentality has long been seen an issue as he floats in and out of games.
A switch to the Groupama Stadium could suit both parties as the goal-shy outfit look to bolster their forward line.

Sevilla
The Spanish side are among those most heavily linked with the wantaway star.
Sevilla would regularly provide Martial with European football, albeit perhaps in the Europa League rather than the Champions League.
The LaLiga outfit would also allow the forward to thrive in a leading role, something he's been unable to assume during his Old Trafford career.
Sevilla are facing mounting interest in Youssef En-Nesyri, with Arsenal among his admirers.
If he were to leave Martial may be seen as the ready made replacement.

Newcastle United
Money is something the Magpies don't need to worry about, although relegation certainly is.
Newcastle need to bolster their ranks in the New Year as they look to retain their Premier League status.
Martial's United teammate Jesse Lingard has been touted as a signing, but capturing the Frenchman himself would be a major coup.
There is an over reliance on Callum Wilson to come up with the goods at St James' Park so adding another forward would help their chances.
Fans in the north east love having a striker to idolise and Martial could assume that role if he opts to remain in the Premier League.
Arsenal
Another Premier League side on the look out for a striker.
United may be loathed to sell to a direct rival and one who could still pip them in the top four race.
Martial's desire to leave may be too great however with Mikel Arteta facing plenty of uncertainty regarding his own forward options.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette could both exit in the next six months leaving the Gunners light in attack.
Arsenal's young squad may be enough to offer Martial fresh impetus and he would certainly be the man to lead the line with little competition.
Monaco
The romantic move. Martial left the principality back in 2015 for a mammoth fee.
He only offered glimpses of what he could do before a major club came calling but as he plans to resurrect his career a return to Monaco may suit.
The French club have often seen their best players seek pastures new, but Martial's desire to leave could see them recapture a man who could still be a major player.
At 26 the Frenchman can still achieve his potential and his former side may be tempted if the price is right.
